Supporting a Grieving Friend

If you’re supporting someone who’s grieving, thank you! They need it.

Below are a few pieces that are a good place to start. Take any of these offerings as just that, offerings. I don’t know your friend and so don’t know what they need. But I hope these words can enlighten about the reality of what it’s like to be grieving, and the challenge of identifying needs and then communicating them when you’re in the depths of a life altering loss.

It’s hard living in a largely grief-phobic culture and not knowing how to support a grieving friend. Before Mike died I didn’t know any of this. And the very fact you’re reading this means that you care. We’re grateful you’re here!

And if you’re a griever in need of support and think these would be helpful to share with your crew, please do so. It could open up a conversation or just be sent without context. I’m fully on board with passive aggressively sharing information in order to receive better support in grief.
